What the contract involves

The contract consists of an agreement document, the project description and the Research Council’s General Terms and Conditions for R&D Projects.

If you have applied in the new application system, you must read: General requirements for applications in the new system (My page), in addition to our information on Grant letter.

General terms and conditions 2025 (for those who have applied in the old system)

These general terms and conditions apply to applications received by the Research Council from March 2025 in the old system:

The contract is sent to you together with our formal letter of notification. There is a template used for all contracts, which must incorporate the following documents as a minimum:

  • An agreement document: this describes the specific conditions associated with the allocation, such as:
    • project objectives;
    • project management;
    • budget;
    • financing;
    • progress plan;
    • reporting requirements.
  • The project description: this has been submitted together with the final version of the grant application, after the revision process is completed;

  • The General Terms and Conditions for R&D Projects: these are the Research Council’s standard terms and conditions and are applicable to all R&D projects, unless otherwise specifically agreed on.

In the event that there is conflict between the documents, the agreement document will take precedence.

The Research Council adjusts the General Terms and Conditions for R&D projects when this is necessary. The version of the General Terms and Conditions that was in force when you applied for funding will be applicable for your entire project period.

Previous versions of the General Terms and Conditions

It is up to you to decide whether the contract is to be written in Norwegian (Bokmål or Nynorsk) or English.
