The Research Council's functions and tasks
Grant management: Our task is to ensure that we fund the best research and innovation projects. We are distributing NOK 11.3 billion to research and innovation projects on behalf of all the ministries.
Consultancy: We are the government's most important advisers in research and innovation. We advise on the areas in which society needs more knowledge and new solutions.
Dialogue: We create arenas for dialogue between researchers, business, public administration and other users of research and innovation. We connect the sectors so that they can learn from each other and society can use new knowledge more quickly.
Assignments: We carry out various externally funded assignments, initiatives and strategy processes, on behalf of the ministry and other public bodies.

We are about 360 employees who work to solve societal challenges and create the jobs of the future.
Annually we award two prizes at NOK 500,000 each. Anyone can make suggestions for candidates.
We have developed a professional application assessment device and have an extensive international network of national and international specialists that we use in our processes.
